The live gold price (spot price) is the current market rate to buy or sell one troy ounce of pure gold for immediate delivery. It is quoted continuously as global markets trade, and it forms the baseline for the value of gold coins, bars and rounds — before any dealer premium.

Gold is priced per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). Because most bullion coins such as the American Gold Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf and Krugerrand contain one troy ounce of gold, the spot price is the single most important number for any stacker to watch.

What moves the gold price?

Interest rates & the US dollar

Gold typically strengthens when real interest rates fall and the dollar weakens, and softens when rates rise.

Inflation & safe-haven demand

Investors buy gold as a hedge against inflation and during periods of economic or geopolitical uncertainty.

Central bank activity

Large-scale buying or selling by central banks can move the gold market meaningfully.

Gold price FAQ

What is the spot price of gold?

The gold spot price is the current market price for one troy ounce of pure gold for immediate settlement. It changes continuously while markets are open and is the reference point for pricing gold coins and bars.

How is the gold price per gram calculated?

Divide the spot price per troy ounce by 31.1035. For example, if gold is priced per troy ounce, the per-gram price is that figure divided by 31.1035 grams.

Why is the price I pay higher than spot?

Dealers add a premium over spot to cover minting, distribution and their margin. Premiums vary by product, size and demand. BullionTally lets you record your actual purchase price so your profit/loss is accurate.

How do I track the value of my gold holdings?

Add each gold coin or bar to BullionTally with its weight and purity. The app values your holdings at the live spot price automatically, so you always know what your stack is worth.
